TVSkelton’s JXD S602 in action videos

Skelton’s got a JXD S602 – and he’s videoed it; time for all of us to celebrate! I’ve been a little late in posting these, so they’ve built up. But on the plus side, it’s like watching all 8 episodes of the current season of Breaking Bad in one large hit.  Enjoy, bitches!

Announcing another Android TV USB Stick thing

Our very good friends at Willgoo are stocking this now, for a lowly $71.99. and would like me to let you all know about it.

These have become somewhat common nowadays – I blame the Raspberry Pi.  Although of course, they are a different class of device altogether: much smaller, easier to set up, and with Android 4.0, sporting a decent interface to turn a dumb to smart TV with little effort. And as the picture shows, this one had a dual core CPU and 1 GB of RAM.

You could do much worse, and so, if you get one from this link, I get a little cut.

CZDoom for Dingoo A-380/A-320e

CZDoom for Dingoo A-380/A-320e
« on: September 23, 2012, 02:19:43 PM »

Here's a CZDoom port for the Dingoo A-380/A-320e. It's based on PRBoom ( and ported by Joyrider and CongoZombie to the Dingoo.

It has been recompiled with a new sdlwrapper from d_smagin. The old one from Ayla would probably have worked too, but I thought that it would be a good idea to try the new version from d_smagin, who made it to make it compatible with C++.

Enjoy DOOM on your Dingoo A-380/A-320e without the screen issue.

New custom firmware for dingoo technology a380

Great news from alien grey for Dingoo A380 users:

Re: New Dingoo A-380 Firmware V2.04.00
The new custom Dingoo A-380 Firmware Version 2.04.00 is available for download.

New in this custom firmware is a new menu item "SDL Emulators" and a new full speed SEGA Mega Drive emulator build by d_smagin. 8)

How to use this emulator:

From my own experience use 8 bit fast and Frameskip 0 or Auto and Sound quality 16000Hz stereo for full speed. Some games won't run without graphical glitches with these settings. To fix that use 16 bit or 8 bit accurate with frameskip Auto but keep the sound quality at 16000Hz stereo. Other settings may also work very good but these are the ones that I'm using.

Settings can be saved to change them as the default ones but it's also possible to save settings for a single game if necessary.

Note: To enter the menu press Select.

Enjoy your new full speed SEGA Mega Drive emulator.
Thanks to d_smagin for his excellent work on this emulator. ;)

PS: Don't forget to download the Dingoo A-380 Version 2.04.00 emulator pack. More emulators more fun. ;D

How to root the JXD S602–by Skelton

Thanks again Skelton for this guide!

[HOW TO] Root JXD s602
« on: Today at 03:07:38 AM »

This is a brief tutorial on how to make root to s602:

first of all download and extract file to the folder you want:

- Connect your s602 to PC in USB debugging mode. Go to Settings/Developer Options/USB debugging
- Allow system to install apps from unknown sources. Go to Settings/Security/Unknown sources.

System should install drivers automatically (at least it did on mine). If not, tell Windows update to search for drivers or try this generic ones.

Now, with console in USB debugging Mode, run the file root.bat. (We'll keep the program script opened until the end of the process)

- System will power off, and script will ask us to press a key (We don't do it yet)

- Power on s602 again and reconnect using usb debugging mode, probably you will need to unplug and plug the usb cable.

- Now we press a key and system will power off again.

- We power on again and repeat the process like in previous step. At this time it is possible that screen shows some bad colours on screen. Don't worry, it's ok.

- Now with USB debugging connected again we press a key in the screen, the script will show in screen the following:
Adb remount, and next it will copy some files to our PC. When it finishes system will power off again . You can close the script and we have rooted the device.

There is a second step that is not necessary but I suggest doing it anyway.

We power on the s602 and we will see superuser app installed in our system.

- Open superuser and go to settings:

Select the option Su Binary v3.0.3.2. System will update our su binaries and place them at the system/bin folder. (you need wifi for that).

Superuser will tell us that we are up to date, but we click on "update anyway".

Probably we get a fail warning in line "remounting /system as ro", but it's ok. We repeat the process using option "that was cool, do it again"

Now superuser will update our binaries and we are finished.

P.D; I don't know if this method works for other GP33003 devices like Yinlips g17, g19 o JXd s603, but it deserves a try,

Skelton’s JXD S602 Mini-Review

Skelton shares his thoughts in the Dingoonity forums about the brand new JXD S602. It looks like a winner IMHO:

Ok, I just got mine. Here are my initial impressions, specially for those that are interested specially comparing to s601:

- Design is a bit better, D-PAD and buttons are softer than s601 (specially L and R buttons), and screen is abit more responsive.

- System comes with a series of emulators installed for all common systems (PSX, n64, GBa, MD, SNES, NES, MAME, etc..) all in one package called gamemulator. The good thing is that we can install the emulators we want without the need of uninstalling the stock ones, so we can have our own emulators and the "GameEmulator" app included in the device.

- Performance in emulators is a bit better than s601, specially in PSX and n64 emulation.

- System plays video nice, including ac3 and dts codecs.

- The combo button issue present in other devices like s601 or s5110 is not present here. There is not combo issue at all. However, if someone wants me to test some special combination let me know and I will test it.

- System can be rooted! (oh yeah). check tis brief tutorial I made:,167.0.html

- Google play comes with the system but it comes "hidden" (weird thing). However, once we got rooted, googleplay is ready to be used. Works quite fine by default (they have used the same files I use for the Skelrom s5110, exactly the same xD). I could download FPSE, youtube, facebook, etc....

- It comes with an app called key2touch (similar to Gamekeyboard) that allows us to play android games with physical buttons, those android games that have virtual buttons and pad on screen. It also allows to save profiles for different games.

- analog and d-PAD are the same thing (we already knew that).

Now some cons I have found:

- System doesn't support USB OTG, so we cannot plug flash drives, mouse or gamepads to the device.
- Battery time seems to be lower than s601, not much but a bit lower.
- System has one speaker only like s601 (although sound is better).

I will make a series of videos showing the device, emulators, games etc. If anyone wants me to show or test something in particular let me know and I will do my best to show different aspects of the device.

As you can see, my first conclussions are very positive, device is really nice. And if we take into account its ridicilous price (very low), it's even nicer.

I will make some tests at night when I get home, and let you know my findings.

I have tested some games and It's good, 60 fps in all games I tried. I suggest using FPSE for Playstation emulation, since stock PSX emulator included in the device is not as good. I will try Resident Evil and oddworld and let you know.

S601 is not more powerful than s602. Performance in s602 is better in emulators than s601, so don't know why you say that (I have both, so I know What I am saying). s602 has HDMi instead of compostie video. And s601 has some button combo issues that makes somes games really hard to plsy. In s602 this is fixed. Screen is multituouch too.

I don't see the problem that system runs ICS instead of gingerbread.

s601 has more scene (although people has stopped developing things for it for what I can see, myself for example), and that is maybe the main advantage over s602. Battery life seems better in s601 too.

Any case, both systems are fine, so it's your choice. Both are cheap and both are nice, so probably is a good decision.

Thank you Skelton for sharing your thoughts and your great review! If you’d like to buy one, please do so from this link and help this site.

MG Android gaming device for kids

With no dpad to be seen for miles, this fails every retrogamer’s requirements in droves, but it’s always good to see what’s available in the same price bracket as the JXD S602’s and YDPG 17’s of this world …

This may change with MG, a new Android gaming device in the making which is meant exclusively for  kids. It’s a fairly simple device which runs on Android, comes pre-loaded with a number of games and doesn’t feature any connectivity options or even a camera. And that is precisely why, PlayMG believes its upcoming device is good enough for the kids.

MG packs a 1GHz Cortex A5 processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD and a Wi-Fi radio. It also comes with a number of sensors which would be required by a number of modern day games, including an accelerometer amongst others.

Read more about what USD$99 buys you on the project’s Kickstarter page:

To be frank, I think I know what little Jimmy (or his dad, anyway) would prefer for Christmas

Good news … and bad news on the Wikipad

Wikipad New

We heard about this Android tablet gaming device thingamijig back in Jan 2012, and the good news is that it appears that its release date has now moved to real soon now status – October 31 2012, apparently:

The Wikipad has had quite a ride. In January, it was a small no-name Android 4.0 tablet with an unproven processor, a glasses-free 3D screen, an optional game controller attachment, and a sub-$250 price. Eight months later, the likes of Sony and Nvidia are backing a rather different Android 4.1 gaming slate that will retail at brick and mortar GameStop stores for $499.

Today, Wikipad is simultaneously announcing pre-orders for the tablet at that price, and revealing the final design: Now, it's a sleek black 10.1-inch slate that's just 8.6mm thin — one of the thinnest we've ever seen — and weighs less than 560 grams, or a pound and a quarter or so. Now, it comes standard with a detachable set of game controls, which the company claims are balanced just right. The 1280 x 800 IPS LCD screen is driven by a 1.4GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 32GB of storage, with a microSD slot for expansion.

The bad news? While the specs look pretty impressive, so does the RRP of USD $499 … and it looks like sometime between January and now, the Glasses Free 3d Screen this was supposed to sport has turned into vapour.

NesterOD 0.1 for OpenDingux

NesterOD 0.1

NESTERDC has been ported to OD!

Release Notes:

Hi, this is a port of “NesterDC for SDL” (which is part of a port of Nester for the Sega Dreamcast).

Yes, another NES emulator for OpenDingux, but I think this one is the best (all credits to Nester and NesterDC developers).

- Based on NesterDC 7.1
- Almost fullspeed without frameskip at 336Mhz
- Really good sound at 44100Mhz
- Save/Load states
- SRAM support
- Support for a LOT of mappers (~130)
- Added support for .zip files

Not tested:
- FDS support. The code is there, maybe it works!
- External devices (gun, keyboard, paddle)
- Tested on OpenDingux first end-user release, but maybe it works in older versions.

For the next release I’ll add:
- Fullscreen mode
- Optimizations (if possible)

D-Pad, A, B, Select and Start – NES controller
Y – Save State
X – Load State
Hold – Pause nester (Hold again to resume)
L – Exit nester (on the next release this will open the GUI)

put nester.od wherever you want, add a link on GMenu2X and use the “selector browser” option

Seagal’s Neodingoo - Neopop Emulator port for A320 Native Firmware

Thanks to Seagal, and keep up the great work!:

I'm porting Neopop emulator for dingoo a320 Native firmware.

Currently is in very basic stage, but most games are playable.

Here is the link for download for first release

and here is my blog, you can grab the picture of the emu from here if you want.

The blog and the readme are on spanish only, sorry, but I think is not a problem now with google translator :P

Here is a google translate of Seagal’s blog:

Porting the Android Neopop I ran into some problems with the controls and the multitouch, so to find a solution while I lingered in porting what we had for the native firmware dingoo a320 console, and test the new Dingoo step FlatMush SDK. The result is this.

I know there is already an emulator neo geo pocket for native firmware 'szNeoPop760.sim', but it works pretty bad and there was only one version, in 2009. This moment is a little faster and there are more chances of actualize :) That if a first version is pretty green, no sound, the switch accepts only roms roms number fit on screen, does not work when 100% in every game, some are hung, the black and White do not have the right colors and some sprites go all white ... puyo puyo but doing great! From time any version of Dingux works much better, but hey, little by little. And thanks to this port I could solve the problems I had with the controls in android, which were not the fault of the touch screen if not routine he had done for the controls. NeoDingoo Download 0.1.0

JXD S602 now available from Willgoo – only $65.99!

Possibly one of the more successful Android Consoles, the JXD 601 certainly has support among both devs and users.  And now, you can buy its successor, the JXD 602 from Willgoo for a hilarious $65.99, shipping included!

As far as I can tell from this thread, the main improvements over the JXD S601 are:

* Dual HDMI display (Hmm … I think this means it displays on the console’s screen and on the TV at the same time … anyway, the original JXD S601 only output video via composite)
* Multiplayer Linking
* Android V4.0 installed as stock
* Battery bumped up from 2300 mah to 2500 mah
* Improved buttons feel
* Slightly slimmer

Click here if you would like to buy one from Willgoo and also help support this l’il ol site.
